EARLY CHILDHOOD
Early Childhood
Play with a purpose. Three-year-olds meet the shop table and the science bench in the same week they learn to write their name.
THE DAY
Half the day in the home classroom, half moving between labs and outdoor play. Rest time every afternoon.
LITERACY
Read-alouds, songs and early phonics daily, in English and the second language.
THE LABS
Shorter, more frequent visits. Every lab, every week, in blocks a four-year-old can hold.
FAMILIES
A teacher note home every Friday; conferences in November and March.

KINDERGARTEN – 8THTHREE MORE OF THE SEVEN
K–8
Kindergarten through 8th
Nine years with the same teachers, the same labs and the same classmates. Reading and number sense in the early grades grow into departmentalized subjects and a year-long capstone by 8th.
THE DAY
Core subjects in the morning, a full lab block after lunch. From 5th, six periods with subject teachers and an advisory of 8–10.
MATHEMATICS
Number sense built into fractions, algebra and geometry; chess taught as part of the subject.
THE LABS
By 3rd grade students have cut a film, soldered a circuit and performed on the school stage. In 7th and 8th they choose one lab to go deep in while keeping the other six.
ASSESSMENT
Narrative reports each trimester; letter grades begin in 5th.
CAPSTONE & HIGH SCHOOL
A year-long 8th grade project shown at the spring festival, and placement counseling from 7th for specialized, screened and independent high schools.

Two languages, because Flushing speaks more than that.
Every child studies English and either Mandarin or Spanish, daily, from their first week in 3K through graduation. Families choose the second language at enrollment.
