What we are aiming for

We want this site to work for everyone who comes to it, including people using a screen reader, people navigating with a keyboard instead of a mouse, people who enlarge text, and people who have turned off animation.

We are working to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. This site is partially conformant: most of it meets that standard and we know of some places that do not. Those are listed below rather than left for you to find.

What we have done

• Every photograph carries a text description, and decorative marks are hidden from screen readers rather than read out as filenames
• The site can be operated with a keyboard, including the menus. Pressing Escape closes an open menu and returns you to where you were
• A skip to content link at the top of every page
• Text and interface colours checked against the contrast the standard asks for, including form field borders, which are easy to overlook
• Form fields carry real labels and the right autofill types
• The quotes on the home page can be paused, and do not move at all for anyone whose device asks for reduced motion
• Pages work at 200% zoom and reflow to a single column on a phone with no sideways scrolling

What we know is not right yet

• Captions on our films. The films on the Student Work page are hosted on YouTube. We have not yet confirmed that every one carries accurate captions rather than automatically generated ones.
• The map on the Contact page is provided by Google and we do not control how accessible it is. The full address is written beside it as text and travel directions are listed in text, so nothing is available only inside the map.
• We have not yet had an independent audit by someone who does this professionally.

How this site was built

This website was designed and built with the assistance of generative AI tools, alongside human direction, review and testing. We mention it because we would rather say so than not. It does not change who is responsible for this site: we are.

Tell us if something does not work

This is the part that matters most. If you reach something on this site you cannot use, we want to hear about it, and you do not need to know why it is broken or what to call it. Describe what you were trying to do.

Tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what happened. If you use a screen reader or another assistive tool, saying which one helps us find the problem faster. We read every message and will get back to you.

If you cannot use this site to reach us, call the office and we will do whatever you need over the phone or in person. Nothing on this website is the only way to do anything.
